This weekend we took a trip to the western side of Sardinia. First we went to a beautiful town called Bosa, which is known for its colorful houses and its river. There aren’t a lot of rivers in Sardinia and Bosa was built along Sardinia’s only navigable river. We walked around for a bit, saw a church, and I bought some stuff from a cute touristy shop. Then we had lunch and it only took 1.75 hours, which is pretty good for us. The food was good and they served reasonably sized portions so I was actually able to eat everything.

We drove to our hotel, which was on the coast, and it was sooo nice. The view from my balcony was GORGEOUS. I hung out at the hotel pool and some people went to a nearby beach. We had dinner at the hotel which was not my favorite meal. The hotel beds were really comfortable–definitely the best we’ve had of all our overnight trips–and I went to bed early to get maximum use out of mine.

The next day we went on a bike trip along the coast of the Sinis peninsula. To be honest I wasn’t a huge fan of this bike ride because we went pretty slow and stopped a lot. Our guide said he was originally going to take us along a certain path but then determined that we weren’t up for it and he decided to go along a road instead. A lot of people were annoyed by that because because we all wanted to go faster and didn’t understand why he didn’t think we were up for it. We took some stops to look at the coast.

There was a cat. There was another cat that popped out during the bike ride but I couldn’t get a picture of it. Our tour guide said there was cat beach nearby that was full of strays that people feed. Obviously we didn’t get to go there 😦

Afterward the bike ride we went to the beach and had lunch. This beach is famous because of its rice-sized, white sand. Our guide told us that people have gotten 3000 euro fines for getting caught taking sand from this beach. I was wondering what made the sand so special but when I got to the beach I understood. It was made of round, white quartz pebbles with other colored stones mixed in and it was really beautiful. My friends and I spent a while trying to get good pictures of the sand. We kept scooping up handfuls looking for a good batch that had a nice mix of colors, and we finally just started picking out the colorful pebbles and adding them to one pile. The rice-sized sand was nice to look at but painful to step on.

I also went snorkeling on the beach. No one joined me because the water was pretty cold. I saw some fish and a cool underwater environment. At first I thought there was a lot of dead coral but I think it was just rocks so covered with organisms that it looked like coral. I probably snorkeled for half an hour and then got out because I was too cold. Annalisa bought us ice cream and we got back on the bus and went back to Cagliari.
