In stark contrast to the morning visit to the trash facility, on Thursday afternoon we visited San Sperate, which is a small town that’s called an open-air museum because there are murals and other art pieces all over the town. I walked around town for a bit with my friend and admired the art.

This whale and marlin one was my favorite.

We had some interesting interactions with the locals where I had to use my Italian skills. One lady invited us into her house to see her husband’s collection of 30 motorcycles. Later we went into a man’s yard/driveway because we saw he had some cute cloth pouches for sale. My friend bought one and then he gave me one for free, which was very sweet.

While in this town I saw four cats!

After walking around we went to the museum of singing stones. These were carved by a sculptor who believed that rocks have souls and that you can hear them. He cut stones so that they make a sound when you rub them gently with a rock or your fingers. Not all the stone sculptures are sound stones, only the ones with many deep vertical cuts. I’m not sure if I buy into the rocks have souls thing but they were cool.

This post wasn’t even required for class. I just know my audience is dying for more content. I’ll see you after the next excursion.

Arrivederci
