Cagliari is nice. Every day has been warm and sunny. The city has old buildings and tight streets that look very Italian. I haven’t been to the beach yet but I’ve heard from my classmates that it’s beautiful. Sardinia was hyped up for me by Annalisa and other people who have been on this trip so I was expecting it to be nice and my expectations are met. I was surpised by how cheap the food is and how many people don’t speak english. I’ve been using my Italian a lot more than I expected and it’s fun!

I’m staying in an apartment with the TA, Bridget (who may be reading this) while the rest of the students are living in a hostel about 10 minutes away. Our place is a cute 1 bedroom with a kitchen and a balcony. Better than the hostel, according to the people staying there. The view from our balcony is shown below. On our first day Bridget and I were shown around the apartment by a woman who did not speak english and I proudly understood about 15-20% of what she said to us.

On the second day of the trip Annalisa (my professor) showed us around Cagliari. For you americans at home, that’s pronounced Cal-yuh-ri. It’s beautiful. It looks like a medditerranean city. I don’t feel like describing here so here are some pictures.

There was a church I wasn’t really allowed to go into because I didn’t have my shoulders and legs covered. Did you know people in Calgliari don’t really wear shorts? Even though it’s like 70 degrees out. Wack.

After the tour, Annalisa took us to dinner at a restaurant where we had an authentic multi-course Italian meal. Every time you thought they were done they brought out another thing. I tried mussels for the first time and they weren’t terrible but I also don’t see why they’re worth eating. The last thing they brought out before dessert was a plate of meat and I went straight for the steak. Everyone else drank a lot of wine.

Today we had our first class and we met some Italian students and talked about life in Boston versus life in Calgliari. After class I went with a friend to a small archaeological museum where we got to walk around some ruins and it was cool. Then we checked out some shops and I bought postcards. That’s about it so far.

Ciao!
